L'Èrnouvé - Spring

L'Èrnouvé (Spring) is one of les quat' saisons (the four seasons). The others are l'Êté (Summer), lé S'tembre (Autumn), l'Hivé (Winter).

If you want to say "in Spring" in Jèrriais, you say au R'nouvé. There is a diton which says au R'nouvé, tout est bé; au S'tembre, rein n'y r'sembl'ye. (in Spring everything is lovely; in Autumn nothing resembles it).

We can see that the word Èrnouvé contains the word nouvé (new) which reminds us that it is the season of renewal.

In Spring, l's ouaîsieaux font lus nids (the birds make their nests) and we look forward to Easter - Pâques. As we walk around the Island, we can see all sorts of things: les fielles (the leaves) on the trees, les clios (the fields), les pip'solles (primroses), du jaune coucou (cowslips), d'la néthe êpîngne (blackthorn).

Sometimes the weather is not too good in Spring, as a diton tells us: quand Pâques marchinne - peste et dgèrre et fanminne (when Easter is in March - plague, war and famine), but another diton reminds us that au mais d'avri tout annima change d'habit (in the month of April every animal changes its coat).
