Les Fieillets Jèrriais

Mar 2010

Salutâtions tout l'monde. Lé mais d'Mar arrive mais oùest quest l'Èrnouvé? Thank you to all who attended last months meeting and completed their compositions for Les Nouvelles Chroniques and proceeded on the selection/examination of the Eisteddfod archive material.

If discussion concerning the Section Officers is required the status quo would seem to be acceptable and could continue if there are no proposals/objections…and none has been received.

Grateful thanks and apologies are recorded to François and Geraint for their time and effort in correcting the Jèrriais Rapport Annuel. They urgently request that the Spell Check be used for any word checks in future writing, to avoid wasting their time.

The main event this coming month is the Société Jersiaise Open Day on Saturday 6th March from 10.00am until 4.00pm in the Members and Arthur Mourant Rooms. Our section will display the very colourful and informative posters with the books and booklets we have produced. These will give the public a chance to see not only the work we do but also the way Geraint, Tony and Colin have assembled and produced a tremendous variety of topical subjects with all items in Jèrriais.

We have obtained two quotations for travel and accommodation to Rouen in June for La Fête Nouormande which can be obtained by e-mail. If one takes a car it also provides the option of making it a holiday in part, with visits to places nearby.

On the subject of language usage, L'Office requested information on the location of the colombier which gave its name to La Colomberie, for their signage project. The probable location of its remains is to be found on the 1834 de Gruchy map of St. Helier. It belonged to Le Manoir de la Motte, formerly on the corner of Grosvenor and St James Streets, and seems to have been situated in the back gardens of old Colomberie House between it and the present Philip le Feuvre Social Security offices.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday next, March 3rd, at 8.00pm in the AM Room at La Société to finalise the format for Open Day and to continue with the study of the archive material. The Secretary extends his apologies for absence at both meetings due to holiday commitments.

À la préchaine,

John Clarke (Président)

Ralph Nichols (Ségrétaithe)
