T-shirt competition - Tee-corset
There is currently no Jèrriais-wear on the market - this is a gap that needs to be filled. There is certainly nothing for young, trendy people or even for traditional events such as fêtes and festivals.
Aim:
To have a Jèrriais t-shirt available for sale for Summer 2009 at a price under £10.
Objective:
The design will be chosen by means of a competition. This will enable younger people to get involved in a Jèrriais-related project as well as raising awareness of the branding possibilities of Jèrriais among the design community. Jèrriais will benefit by means of the publicity generated by the competition on three occasions in particular:
- the launch of the competition in Autumn 2008
- the exhibition of entries and announcement of winners in early 2009
- marketing of t-shirts in Spring/Summer 2009
Competition:
The competition will be launched in September 2008. The competition will be open to all (students, professionals, non-professionals) of any age. All entries to be received by 20th January 2009. The winning entries will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by L'Assembliée d'Jèrriais (and/or other sponsors). It is intended that a selection of entries will be exhibited in 2009 (at a venue in Jersey to be chosen; and at the 2009 Fête Nouormande in Guernsey in May 2009).
There will be 3 prizes:
- First prize £100 (and 6 t-shirts of the winning design as produced)
- Second prize £50
- Third prize £25
(additional certificates of merit may be awarded to other entrants at the discretion of the judges)
Prizes are offered thanks to the kind sponsorship of L'Assembliée d'Jèrriais.
Design brief:
Produce a design for the front of a t-shirt that will be attractive, youthful, saleable, and that will associate Jèrriais with stylish and fashionable summer wear. Think cool; think funky; think witty; think stylish; think groovy....
- The design must be for the front of a t-shirt (not the back, nor front-and-back)
- The design must be in one colour (the colour of t-shirt intended as the background may also be specified as part of the design)
- The design must feature prominently or incorporate legibly the words Jèrriais (including the accent) - no other text is permitted, but any other visual element may be included or graphic treatment applied
- The design must be freely-reproducible (the winning entrant will, in return for the prize, agree a reproduction licence with the organisers so that the design may be printed commercially on a t-shirt)
- The design must be wholly the entrant's own work
Send completed entry forms with attached graphics files to L'Office du Jèrriais by post to arrive before 20th January 2009. Competitors may enter more than one design, but each entry must be accompanied by a separate entry form. Designs should be submitted in TIFF format in the first instance (preferably on CD; contact the organisers if alternatives are proposed).
The judges' decision will be final, but they reserve the right to agree with the winning designer minor changes to the design to facilitate production. The organisers will not be bound to proceed to the production of the t-shirt in the event no suitable design is submitted.
Copyright in all submitted designs will remain with entrants (the winning design will be licensed for reproduction as a tee-shirt).
The competition is organised by L'Office du Jèrriais (with support from L'Assembliée d'Jèrriais)
