Salutâtions tout l'monde. This month's meeting included some language and vocabulary, and consideration of some poetry, ably led by François and Geraint. One poem bas been chosen for those interested in the Eisteddfod.

Thank you to those who returned the questionnaire for Rachel, and if there are any outstanding could they be returned as soon as possible.

Thanks, too, to Mike Stentiford for including Jèrriais in his leaflet on Trinity wildlife, one of a series the Parish is producing for the year 2000.

Our next meeting will be a little different. You are cordially invited again to join Brian and Joyce Gilbert for a lanes' ride (postponed last year due to the weather), on Wednesday, 2nd August, at the earlier time of 7.00 pm - to make use of the daylight - at "Brantwood", La Rue des Cabarettes, St Martin, just north of La Preférence. If the weather is unsuitable we will have a guided tour of the vehicles, harnesses, etc., and stables en Jèrriais. If you would like to participate, please phone 862756 so that we can get some idea of numbers

L'Achocre

Les vaques à Philo donnent du lait -
Hardi bouon pour té et mé,
Jeanneton va dans l'clios les traithe
Et lus donne de ieau à baithe.

Jeanneton s'met à traithe lé boeu -
Eune chose qu'ou n'éthait pas deu!
I' beulit et i' la boutit,
Et ou s'en fut piaillant siez yi.

"Achocre!" l'y dit lé Philo
"Fallait t'y bailli un coup d'maillot!
Janmais d'ma vie j'n'ai ouï dité -
Va-t-en dans l'clios ramasser l'lait!!"

L'achocre rêponnit: "Ch'est tout bein -
Personne né m'disent janmais rein!
Comment dithe la différence, P'pée?"
"Mais - par la melle tch'il a au nez!!!"

Ch'est l'annivèrsaithe d'la Reine Méthe qué j'allons célèbrer chu mais. Sav'ous qu'ou comprend l'Jèrriais? Né v'chîn la preuve:

During the recent Royal Visit, Her Majesty the Queen Mother met the President of L'Assembliée d'Jèrriais, the Constable of St. John, Mr. W.J. Tomes, who gave her the greetings of his society in Jersey Norman-French. No translation was necessary, for the Queen Mother assured Mr. Tomes that she understood the greeting perfectly. She thanked him and said she was pleased traditions were maintained. For the record, Mr. Tomes' words of greeting were:

"Vout' Majesté, d'la part des membres de L'Assembliée d'Jèrriais, j'vos apporte lus meilleurs souhaits sîncéthes."
