Strange Stories from Jersey
Short stories set in Jersey and first broadcast for hospital patients to listen to on the Island's Radio Lions network.
From the book:
My first glimpse of him was under the arc light set up in David Place. I was trudging home from work when my attention was caught by the brightly lit up activity of the sewer men, in and around a huge hole in the middle of the road. Quite a few men were watching every move of the arc-lit figures, and one of them was him.
There he was, heavily contrasted in his black clothes against the vivid yellow of the excavator near which he was standing. But, as I was picking my way round and over various planks of wood, I felt that his intense gaze had shifted from the workmen and the hole in the road and was now turned full on me. So, as I leant against the wall to let an elderly lady through the narrow pedestrian way, I looked back to see if I was right. Yes, there he still stood, lit up by the arc light, his large brown eyes staring straight ahead of him - at me!
