Methodism in the Channel Islands

This information came from Stephen Foote:

There are at least three sources about Methodism - two of which are in French and were published in the 1800s. They are

1. "Histoire du Methodisme dans les Isles de la Manche" by Francois Guiton published around the 1840s

2. "Histoire du Methodisme dans les Isles de la Manche" by M Le Lievre (1885)

The third was published in the 1950s in English - it's called "Methodism in the Channel Islands" by R D Moore, and it is largely a translation of Le Lievre - and bringing it up to date with the early 20th Century.

Some (but not all) of the Methodist Church records & registers have been deposited with the Island Archives Service, and the Priaulx Library have microfilm copies of some of the registers.

There was also a magazine called "Magasin Methodiste" which was drawn on heavily as the source for all of the above books - again the Priaulx Library has some - but not a complete run. They are reputed to contain lengthy
obituaries for leading ministers and preachers - but mainly on their contribution to the church.
