Salutâtions tout l’monde. Ch’est l’mais dé l’Eisteddfod, des bliâses et des meux frits! Thank you to all those who practised ‘not’ pièche d’rêsistance’ for the forthcoming Sethées Jèrriaises. We were well helped by a reading very kindly recorded by Laurie Huëlin which gave us a head start.
Laurie has also sorted through his vast collection of Jèrriais poetry and prose texts and scripts of plays from previous Eisteddfodau, going back over 40 years, and presented the Section with many of them. We have passed these on to L’Office du Jèrriais for scanning and as resources for possible use by future night class students both in class and for performance. We also have some texts from the 1860s -70s in livrets entitled La Nouvelle Année compiled by Augustus A. Le Gros with some interesting Glossaires at the back.
The only spelling/gender error seen this month occurs in French in the last item on the New Year’s Eve menu for the new Victoria’s at the Grand, with diners being invited to take ‘Petites Fours’.
Other than that, our next meeting is next Wednesday, 7th November, in the Arthur Mourant Room at La Société at 8.00pm. for some language and recitation practice.
