Les Fieillets Jèrriais
Juîn 2005
Salutâtions tout l'monde; La Fête Normande est déjà ichîn, et à ch't heu i'fait bé.
Thank you very much to those who made the final arrangements for the Dictionary launch. They were eventually completed and the invitations sent.
The launch was successful and we received some good publicity, so much so that we've sold out of our half of the order and are now buying from the Don Balleine which will help them to defray their costs in helping the Société out of a financial predicament.
During the month we received a request from a student in Cologne for help with spoken and written resources in Jèrriais which has been provided. During the week you may have heard that a Guernsey artist is going to publish an illustrated book of Guernsey folklore written in Dgèrnésiais, so anyone looking for another project, please take note!
La Fête Normande has been progressing well in town during the week and will get into full swing this weekend and Monday at the RJA&HS grounds alongside La Foire de Jersey, with many performances in Jèrriais, Norman and Dgèrnésiais taking place in our dedicated marquee. There is also an area for the sale of books, cassettes and CDs in the different languages and there will be 14 French traders who will be tempting you to buy their wares. So come along on any of the three days and enjoy hearing the differences between the three languages and the amusing poems that have been written by various authors, browse the literature and get into your flavour of the event.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, 1st June at 8.00pm in the A.Mourant Room at La Société for a review of La Fête and suggestions for any additions etc, some language practice, especially of the piece for the Eisteddfod, and possibly a prepared reading for your comments.
