Minutes of the meeting held Tuesday June 20th at 5.15pm

Members' Room

Roger de Carteret chaired the meeting in David Le Maistre's absence

1. Members present :

2. Minutes of the meeting of May 16th 2000, and amendments

These were signed as a correct record. There were no amendments.

3. Matters arising from the minutes, not covered by the agenda

These will be held over until the meeting of August 15th 2000

4. Chairman's announcements

Saturday July 8th 10.00 am to 1.00 pm : Le Marquand and Nicolle Family Search event in the Library and the Members' Room. Introduced by Janet Ferbrache (Le Marquand) and Paul Nicolle (Nicolle). Please bring your family trees and memorabilia.

5. Open Lecture

Professor Gwyn Meirion-Jones, FSA, Hon. Corresponding Member of the Société Jersiaise since 1980 (Visiting Professor of Archaeology, University of Reading) spoke on 'The noble residence of Brittany : its variety, extent and problems of dating', illustrated by slides.

This most interesting and stimulating lecture was followed by supper at the Pomme d'Or Hotel.

After supper, Professor Meirion-Jones offered to lead a field visit of History Section members based on Dinan so that they can visit manors in the area. Possible duration four days, via St Malo, in September 2001. Please let Mary Billot know if you are interested in this very generous offer from Professor Meirion-Jones.
