St. Mary - Ste Mathie
Millennium cross for Grève de Lecq
St Mary's Millennium cross will be placed on the site where early Christians are believed to have landed from Sark, a parish assembly has agreed.
The plan was put forward by the Rector, the Rev Tony Hart, who learnt about the landing in the 6th century from the guide book about the parish church written by Joan Stevens and Jean Arthur.
Details are given about a large monastery in Sark founded by Saint Magloire and monks arriving in the Island to spread the Christian gospel.
Mr Hart said that by selecting a site at Grève de Lecq which is close to Sark the cross could be easily visible and could commemorate the landings.
The company De Lecq (1956) Ltd, who own the triangular piece of land adjacent to the Stable Bar where the cross will be placed, have given it to the parish for this purpose.
Planning permission has been given for the cross to be erected and also for the parish's Millennium monolith to be put into position on common land used for picnics at Devil's Hole.
