Railings

On these pages you will find some pictures of railings and gates in urban areas in Jersey.

It is one of the features of St. Helier and adjacent urban residential areas that elegant houses and buildings sport interesting varieties of decorative railings and gates.

In many ways Jersey has enjoyed a much richer heritage than the UK, where railings were often removed for scrap metal during the Second World War.

Jersey preserved its iron railings for longer - although many have been removed and continue to be threatened by the demands of car parking in residential areas.

The variety of colours also helps to add interest to the urban scene.
