Hector Whistler used to be confused with his more famous cousin, that talented young artist, Rex Whistler, who unhappily lost his life in the war. The mistake was the more easily made as Reginald was the first name of both of them. Hector, as a Camouflage Officer, was responsible for Air Staff camouflage policy in over 300 RA.F. home stations. He is now an artist once more, established in a studio at Oxford. He had a picture in last year's Academy. When you are in Jersey have a look at his huge symbolical picture of the Island in the stately Committee Room of the States Building. But get the States Greffier, or some other knowledgeable person, to explain it to you, or you will come away by that same door wherein you went.

'M. Armand Dumaresq, who was one of Napoleon III's favourite painters of military subjects, has died here in his 69th year. He devoted himself at first to religious work, and the first canvas exhibited by him in the Salon was a dead Christ. After 1854 he turned his attention to military pictures, and his “Solférino”, “Moskowa”, and “Le Garde du Dragon” brought him into wide prominence. The Emperor then commissioned him to paint a collection of military uniforms of the epoch. M Dumaresq also depicted some scenes and episodes of the Franco-German war, and in 1887 exhibited a remarkable portrait of General Boulanger.'

The deceased's mother was a Jerseywoman, being a Mrs. Dumaresq, of Les Colombiers, St. Ouen, who as a girl was educated in France, and subsequently married a Frenchman, M. Armand.
